Sony a7iii

This is currently the hottest full-frame camera on the market. The new "basic" model from Sony changed the meaning of what a basic full-frame model can offer. My experience with this camera has been great so far. The autofocus, performance, and image quality inherit from it's more expensive siblings the a7RIII and a9. If you're on a budget and looking for your first Sony full-frame mirrorless camera, you can't go wrong with this one.

If you haven't caught the high megapixel bug, then you might want to avoid this fantastic camera. The Sony a7RIII introduced a lot of new technologies into the a7 range including a better autofocusing system and faster performance. If I had to choose between the Sony a7III, a7RII, and Sony a9, I would pick this one. The 42 megapixels is addicting and very helpful for cropping into 18mpx stills in crop mode. Plus, using the excellent G-Master lenses on this beast make those lenses come to life.

When Sony announced this camera, it became clear that they were serious in taking mirrorless into a new direction. The Sony a9 took a lot of what they learned in their previous models and polished it into a sports monster. If capturing fast action shots or shooting in silent venues is part of your work, this camera is for you. It's tough choosing between the Sony a9 and a7RIII.

Sony a6500

When Sony announced this camera, I had just purchased a new Sony a6300. Frustrated, I still went ahead and ordered the a6500 and have really enjoyed it prior to the release of the Sony a9. If you're wondering the difference between this camera and the Sony a6300, you'll get IBIS (in body image stabilization) as well as a larger buffer for shooting raw photos. Oh and that touch screen which comes in handy if you're doing gimbal work.

This is probably the best bargain Sony camera you can get. You benefit from the better autofocus system and the enhanced video features such as 4k and 120fps Full HD. This camera sits nicely between the Sony a6000 and Sony a6500. I really like this camera so much that I personally own three. I love taking advantage of the unlimited recording (via a hack) making these great for long-form event recording.

SONY A6000

I actually bought this camera after I owned the Sony a6300. It did feel like a step back, but it helped me understand the strength and weaknesses compared to it's newer brethren. Is it still worth getting this in 2018? For the right price, I think it's still a very capable camera. Paired with some nice lenses this camera can still get the job done. If you don't need 4k recording, this is a great entry camera to Sony mirrorless.
